Community-owned radios in Nepal are established as the fundamental and professionally sound means of ensuring right to information, freedom of expression, development and social transformation.
Establish community radios with the highest professional integrity and strive for sustainability while building on the strengths of each other and working with development partners to make them catalysts of social transformation that advance inclusive democracy and respect for human rights.
The key to achieving ACORAB's strategic objectives is possible only through the genuine involvement of all community radios. It is important, therefore, that everyone should understand, adopt and act in accordance with the core values of this document.
ACORAB will engage itself actively in the politics of mission journalism for social transformation. However, its politics will not be tied to any party line. As such, ACORAB espouses to be politically non partisan while implementing its programs and activities. Similarly, ACORAB will also request it's member stations to adhere to this principle while implementing their programs.
ACORAB respects, observes and promotes pluralistic democratic norms and values within the organization and member radio stations. ACORAB will ensure that the essence of this principle is reflected in its rules, procedures, governance, programming, and management practices. ACORAB will periodically review the observance of this principle in practice and make the necessary adjustments in the rules, system, processes and activities of its board officials, staff and members.
ACORAB will honor, uphold, stand firm, and work actively to promote and preserve one's individual right to information and freedom of expression at the societal and institutional (government, non-government, civil society and private sector levels.
ACORAB will adopt and espouse inclusion in its policies and operations. It will encourage issues to be raised from diverse social, gender, geographic, ethnic, and economic backgrounds and give due space to them while also giving special preference to the poor and the disadvantaged. The respect for diversity and inclusiveness will be reflected in the staffing, its programmes, and the support it provides to member radio stations.
ACORAB respects religious faiths, cultures, practices and traditions of all groups of people and will advocate for equal opportunity for all beliefs and mores. As such it will not discriminate against any one on these grounds. However, ACORAB itself will not give preference to any religion or belief or demand the same from its members.
