Sharing Meeting of Community Radios Held

Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (ACORAB) has organized a sharing meeting of Community Radio Stations of Kathmandu valley and adjourning district on May 19, 2015. Representatives of ten radio stations have participated and shared about their station's situation. Subash Khatiwada, Treasurer of ACORAB and Ram Chandra Lamichhane, Executive Director of ACORAB have facilitated the meeting. This meeting was useful to obtain latest situation of earthquake affected community radio stations.

Meeting facilitator Khatiwada explained about necessity of such meeting to explore possible ways to support affected radio stations. Likewise, meeting is expected to discuss about remolding the radio contents by focusing post-disaster preparedness. In meeting, three key challenges of community radio stations were explored such as physical damages (building and equipment damages), psychological disturbances and trouble to manage radio tower. At the end of a meeting, executive director of ACORAB proposed to establish a joint mechanism to explore ways forward to post-disaster period. Likewise, such mechanism will organize this type of sharing meeting in every month to carry out support initiatives.
